1940’s petal pink dress is a soft lightweight rayon crepe with a the most distinctive and cool construction. This dress is very cool 40s minimalist modèrn. It has a clean and simple silhouette in front but the back has what I would describe as an attached train that starts at the back all the way across the shoulders and fastens in pleats at the waist then goes down from there in a diamond shaped peplum. At the top of the attached train are covered buttons and the main dress under that has a keyhole opening so it’s easy to get on and off. The part of this dress that’s a bit mysterious to me are the super long ties on either side. It’s actually one very long tie that’s attached around the back and loose on the sides. I’m not positive how this tie was fastened in the 40s but I tied it around the waist with a bow on the side because at the center one was longer than the other. It’s possible they could crisscross on the bodice but there’s a variety of ways to tie them. Closure is a matching metal side zipper with a bell shaped base.
No tags and possibly handmade with this unique construction but very well made. There are no holes stains or odors. Freshly soaked and steamed, clean as can be. There are two teeny spots where the fabric has a thin spot- one about halfway down the bodice on the right side of the center seam and one on the left side about 4 inches down from the waist. These two tiny spots are very hard to even photograph or see, but I wanted to mention themThese two tiny spots are very hard to even photograph or see, but I wanted to mention them I also noticed that in the pleats of the back attached train there’s another tiny thin spot on the right side, but it hides in the pleats, so you really can’t see it at all. It presents beautifully with years of wear to go.
Size is a modern small. The model shown is 5’10 with a 34/26/37. The measurements are as follows:
Bust - 35”
Waist - 27” but can tie smaller
Hips - 37.5”
Length - 44.5”
