1930's fuchsia pink maxi dress with so many very special features. This dress has a stunning v-neckline with a wide collar that goes over the shoulders and around the back. At the center is a bow created with beads and rhinestones, it is so pretty and has a beautiful weight. The top of the neckline contrasts with the deep pink hue and coordinates with the bow in front. Across the back is a large bow that snaps on - no idea why it snaps but that is how it was designed so I've kept it snapped instead of tacking it on. Closure is snaps up the side with a hook and eye at the waist. The little pin-tucks, pleating and design of this dress is so iconic 30s deco and the color is beyond!
No tags which is not uncommon for 30s items but I do believe this was expertly handmade along with the other dresses from this estate. It has been soaked and fully restored so it is clean as can be. The most obvious flaw is the color bleed on the neckline which happened in storage as it was there when I found it and the bleed did not get worse of better when I soaked it. I played around with some techniques to treat it but ultimately decided none of them were making it better and we agreed in the shop that it is actually quite pretty and almost looks like a print. There is also some discoloration - just a touch of lightening at the armpits but as the collar goes so far over this is unseen when worn. After washing there was still a very faint mark near the bottom of the hem - shown in photos but very hard to see with the fullness of the skirt. There were a few tiny holes at the hem-line which I patched with matching thread so they won't move but they are not at all noticeable. The lace behind the beading and rhinestones was starting to rip in a few places so I reinforced it from behind with matching thread and I was really pleased that you can't tell unless you look very close and it presents beautifully now.
Size is a modern small to medium - small in the bust but more medium in the waist. These are the measurements:
