1950’s 2 tone velvet 5 piece skirt set by designer Bobbie Brooks. This is maybe the coolest set I have ever had the pleasure to sell. It includes a stunning lavender purple top with covered buttons down the front on top of a little vertical panel. They are decoration and don't actually button. It has a boat neckline and short sleeves. At the bottom of the shirt is a little peplum under the waist and there are loops on either side for the matching belt skinny velvet belt with a cool 40s looking buckle. Closure is matching metal zipper up the side and down the top of the back. The velvet in all these pieces is 100% cotton velvet. There are two skirts that go with this top. The one shown on the model is a full skirt with pleats all around the top in a dark purple with 3 loops around the back of the waistband and a matching metal zipper side closure that has a button at the top. It has beautiful fulness and looks amazing with the lighter purple top. The other skirt is a long pencil skirt that also has a matching belt. Timeless design with a figure flattering fit that has a box pleat at the bottom back for ease of movement. The matching belt of this skirt is thicker than the light purple one and it has more of a square buckle. Just stunning design and the 2-tone velvet makes it so special and perfect for any important occasion.
This 5 piece set was made by one of my favorite 40s and 50s designers Bobbie Brooks. It has tags still attached to the top and pencil skirt, brand tags and shop tags, as well as a little envelope with buttons that says "P.S. Bobbie Brooks thought you might want these extra matching buttons" - just so cool. The full skirt doesn't have tags attached but it shows no signs of wear. All 5 pieces are new old stock deadstock and pristine! When I got them there was the faintest smell of moth balls but I aired them out in my garage for a few months and very carefully sprayed with a vodka water mix and now I smell nothing at all, fresh as can be with no holes or stains, tags attached, as good as it gets!
Size is a modern XS or about a size 4. The top can accommodate a bit larger, but the full skirt is very small, like a 2/4 and the pencil skirt is a more like a 4/6. I've shown them on my model who is a size 4/6 but the skirt did not quite button on her so please pay close attention to measurements. Best fit is probably a modern size 4 with a smallish waist.
