1950's black and white gingham plaid fit and flare dress with the most darling details. This dress is collared and has a covered button panel but the cover part goes to a point with a big pearly white button. This matches pointed button tabs that are on either side of the skirt. My favorite feature is in the back where there is a long panel matching the one in front but at the top of that there is what looks like a pocket flap - a wide v tab with a button - just very thoughtful design and so cute. It has sleeve cuffs and a matching belt. The silhouette is classic 50s fit and flare, pleats around the top of the skirt create beautiful fullness when worn. These 50s cotton prints are honestly my favorite vintage fashion - and this one checks all the boxes!
There are no tags, and it is possible it was handmade but if so quite expertly. Condition is excellent. I added a snap under the hidden button in the bodice just to keep everything in place. There is also a snap at the waist which stays put with the belt. It is clean as can be with no stains, or odors. I did notice two very tiny holes near the bottom left side of the skirt and a few on the right back shoulder. I was able to patch and repair both of these little areas with patches and seam fabric from behind and they are very hard to notice now. Other than that is in amazing condition, with years of wear to go.
Size is a modern XXL or even up to a 1X. I was SO excited to find 50s in a more curvy girl size, and this one is so darling and in excellent shape. The model shown is only about a size 6/8 but this could fit a 12 to maybe 16 - I have clamped it on her for proper form but I've also shown it flat for your reference. The measurements are as follows:
Bust - 46"
Waist - 36" max
Hips - open
Shoulder to waist - 16.5-16.75"
Waist to hem - 28"
Shoulder - 15.5"
