1950's pink and yellow floral print fit and flare dress

$104.00

1950's cotton fit and flare dress in the most lovely print of pink and white blooms and stems in shades of maizey yellow all on a black background. This is my favorite kind of dress in all of vintage clothing, it checks all the boxes! Fit and flare silhouette, cotton fabric, stunning print, pockets on the full skirt, collared neckline - it has everything! The collar is long and rounded with a pointed tab that has cool decorative buttons on either side of the collar. The sleeves are just past half sleeves with a cuff at the end that has pin-tucks for a little puff from the bottom. The cut of this dress is so flattering with a tight rounded panel all around the waist and the bust area is made from two panels that cross under that button tab with darts at the bust so the fit is excellent. The skirt is very full and cut from 4 panels and there are big pointed panels on the top of the skirt on either side. Closure is a metal side zipper.

There are no tags in this dress and it is possible it was handmade. It did have some big problems when I purchased it but I was determined to save it and I'm so pleased with how this restoration turned out. I gave it a good soak so it is as clean as can be with no stains or odors. There was a big rip in the back going down the left back shoulder area. I actually took this to my tailor as I wanted to be sure to do as seamless a repair as possible and she did such an expert job you would never know this rip was there. I've shown a photo where the seam branches just barely off on the left shoulder - as solid as can be now. There were some large holes right at the bottom of the hem, instead of trying to patch these I was able to just bring up the hem just a few inches and now those holes are under the hem unseen. There were a few others right up from there and I was able to pull some fabric from the side seam and hand stitch patch those entirely and with the print it took me forever to even find this repair, it looks so great and is not at all noticeable. Under the collar was a raw hem which I stitched down just to be sure it doesn't fold up or go anywhere so everything is right in it's place now. One of the original buttons on the collar tab was broken so I replaced both of them with buttons that match from this time period. As you can see, the dress is in perfectly restored condition and presents like a dream.

Size is a modern small to a smallish medium or around a 6. It was darling unpinned on the model worn a bit loose. For reference she is 5'10" with a 34/25.5/36. The measurements of the dress are as follows:
