1910’s Edwardian long black dress with stunning embroidery and piping over lace

$178.00

1910’s Edwardian long black dress with stunning embroidery and piping over lace. This detail is truly living art, it is on the bodice going down the front past the waistline. It’s very ornate with turned piping and embroidered flowers. Some might also describe describe it as a cage neckline and back line. I’ve never seen anything quite like it. The silhouette is very Edwardian with a more blouson top, a super small waist and a very full and flowing skirt. The closure is hook and eyes all the way up the back with an attached tie at the waist in back.

No tags as there were not tags in clothing at this time. Condition is remarkable for a garment of this age. It was dirty and soaking a garment this rare and old was terrifying - but it cleaned up nicely without losing any color. I replaced just a few of the hook and eyes that had gotten a bit wompy over the years. When I steamed it I found a few places where the fabric has gotten weak in the folds of the skirt and some had a small hole. I repaired all of these small areas with black patches from behind. You truly cannot even find these repairs now. As you can see it presents beautifully and is a very special item with years of wear to go.

Size is a modern extra small due to the small waist - which of course was corseted at this time. The model shown is 5’10 with a 26” waist so it was tight but it still fit her well. The measurements are as follows:

Bust - 37” but blouson

Waist - 25-25.5”

Hips - open

Shoulder to waist - 16.5” worn blousey

Waist to hem - 38.25”
