Late 1920's cotton house dress white with red trim and red/white polka dot collar and pockets on the front. It has a tie up on the bodice with the most distinctive 20s 30s shape. It has a dropped waist and no closure as closures were not as common at this time, especially for a dress like this which was commonly referred to as a house dress or chore dress. I love the fold over polka dot pockets, they are fully functional by the way! And I was missing one button on the collar so they were replaced to match but I was pleased to find buttons very similar to the original.
No tags which is also not surprising for a dress from this time period. This dress is in amazing condition. I was so pleased with how it turned out after a few soaks, nice bright white and the red is still deep and high contrast. In certain lights I see the teeniest bit of yellowing under the armpits, a bit more on the right, refer to flat photos, very hard to see. I reinforced quite a few seams where there were little separations so they are all solid now. You'll see if you look very close that I hand-stitched the area at the bottom of the collar where the red polka dot fabric had started to separate but now it looks great with no problems. In the photos, I did not yet have the tie which is modern as the original tie in the bodice was no longer there. The one thing I was not able to remedy was the rather large black ink stain in the front bottom of the dress, you can see it in the photos before I figured out what to do, but the flat photos and photos on the form show the dress as it is today fully restored. I decided after many trial and error attempts to make large polka dots in white and red that go all the way around the bottom of the dress to cover that stain but not make it too obvious. These are stitched by hand with matching thread which I think would be more likely for the time period. I'm happy with the way they look, but wish I could have somehow made the stain go away. It was impossible to exactly match this white as it take 100 years for any fabric to get to this exact hue, but as you can see they work pretty well. Just so you know, my pattern did not work out perfectly so if you are looking from the side you'll see that there are two whites in a row, but it is very hard to tell because one is squarely in front and the other is in back. I can see the most barely there very faint mark on the back right side about 5" up from the waist seam, very hard to even see, but want to be sure I'm thorough on noting. The ties are finished with plastic ends that I made so they don't fray. No holes or odors and it presents so beautifully!
Size is a modern small to medium, it measures a bit bigger, but remember it does not have a closure so a larger person might have trouble getting it over your head. It looked darling on my size 4 model, but keep in mind she is about 5'9 so would be longer on a shorter person. The measurements are as follows:
Bust - 35.5"
Waist - 32"
Dropped waist - 33"
Hips - 37.5"
Length - 37.75"
