1940’s black gabardine high rise shorts. These shorts feature a large black button in the back and wide points at the yoke on either side. They are a lovely soft gabardine with a very soft hand. The metal talon zipper is silver and very cool.
There are no tags but I would be surprised if they were handmade as the construction is very expert. The fabric is a rayon gabardine as I mentioned and it has a nice weight. I purchased these from a gal named Billie, they belonged to her great Aunt Dottie. Most of the Dottie items were much more formal so it was fun to see some of her more casual separates. Dottie was quite well off and lived in Cheyenne Wyoming. The short owner history helps account for the excellent condition.
As you can see they are a deep dark black, not faded at all. There was a very small hole in the bottom right by the cross seam. I repaired it just to make sure it doesn’t grow but it is solid now and completely unseen when worn. In some lights I can see just the very slightest touch of iron shine at the bottom of the zipper panel - barely there but I’ve tried to catch that in photos. They present like new!
Size is a modern extra small or around a size 2/4. The measurements are as follows:
Waist - 25.5”
Rise - 14.5”
Hips - 39”
Inseam - 2.5”
