1940's taupe 3/4 sleeve dress copper buttons on bodice cold rayon

$96.00

1940's dress with a beautiful fit and flare shape in a beautiful tan or taupe color. This dress has all the 40s details with a unique neckline that has pointed folds at the top. The bodice is shirtwaist with carved copper buttons down the front and a snap at the top to keep everything in place. It has a 3/4 sleeve with cuffs that are split at the side. The sleeves also have articulated elbows. The peplum of this dress is very unique, it crisscrosses in front in two pointed panels the right one goes around the back sewn into the waist seam and the left one is loose so you can use the metal side zip but it wraps around and fastens in back with two snaps. Really unique construction and SO cool. The full skirt is cut in 4 triangular panels that make it very flowy with amazing movement when worn. The fabric is a soft and lovely cold rayon. Just a beautiful example of classic 40s fashion.

I discovered no tags in this dress, it is possible it was handmade but if so it was expertly done. Condition is excellent. Freshly washed and steamed smells fresh as a flower. I did discover some very small holes, two on the left side about 3" up from the waist, one of the left just down from the waist about an inch from the center seam, and a tiny one under the peplum. I very carefully patched all 3 with a matching patch and you have to search closely to see where they were. I've fixed a few small seam separations so all are solid and intact. Model photos are before laundering and full repairs but flat photos show the dress fully restored. As you can see it presents like an absolute dream come true.

Size is a modern medium or around a 6/8. It was darling on my model who is about a 4/6 and wore it loose - she is 5'8" with a 34/25.5/36. This dress measures as follows:

Bust - 38.5"
Waist - 28.5"
Hips - open
Shoulder to waist - 14.75"
Waist to hem - 27.5"
Shoulder - 15"
